After the bombing of his family's chocolate factory, Tareq Hadhad, a charming young Syrian refugee, struggles to settle into small-town life in Antigonish, Nova Scotia. Despite moving to a new country, he's intent on pursuing his dream to become a doctor. But when his father, Issam, insists that he must focus on survival, Tareq and his family move towards a different, but familiar path: Rebuilding Issam's chocolate business. As father and son both struggle to find common ground and navigate the complexities of family duty, the heightening tension between them threatens to tear the family apart. Based on the internationally recognized true story.

"A heartwarming tale of triumph over adversity” NATIONAL POST / Chris Knight
“Wonderfully made, beautifully acted, and completely engaging film” THE INDEPENDENT CRITIC/ Richard Propes
“When all of the serious dramas and urgent documentaries have faded from your mind, odds are Peace By Chocolate is going to be the film that you not only remember but revisit.”
UNSEEN FILMS // Steve Kopian
“…it’s like Frank Capra came back from the dead to make a movie in Canada.”
LETTERBOXD // Michael O’Keefe
“...Jonathan Keijser and Abdul Malik’s screenplay about a refugee looking to accomplish his dreams is told as a drama-comedy hybrid. This dual-tone takes a potentially heartbreaking yet inspiring story and gives it a different layer by adding humor, making it more watchable to the common viewer.”
FILM THREAT // Chris Salce
“...Peace by Chocolate transcends the expected, sneaking up on you, guiding you toward emotional devastation and reconciliation.” ELEMENTS OF MADNESS // Douglas Davidson
“Ammar is magnificent in his performance as Tareq Hadhad. We laugh with joy as he succeeds, and we feel the punches when he faces setbacks". CULTURED VULTURES // Grady Bolding
“The psychological struggle between father and son to find common ground and navigate the complexities of family duty, assimilating to a new country, and heartbreak and survival has the viewer white-knuckling at the edge of their seat, as they witness these obstacles nearly tear the family apart.”
THE KNOCKTURNAL // Charlotte Kohlberg

THE TERRITORY provides an immersive on-the-ground look at the tireless fight of the Indigenous Uru-eu-wau-wau people against the encroaching deforestation brought by farmers and illegal settlers in the Brazilian Amazon. With awe-inspiring cinematography showcasing the titular landscape and richly textured sound design, the film takes audiences deep into the Uru-eu-wau-wau community and provides unprecedented access to the farmers and settlers illegally burning and clearing the protected Indigenous land. Partially shot by the Uru-eu-wau-wau people, the film relies on vérité footage captured over three years as the community risks their lives to set up their own news media team in the hopes of exposing the truth.

"Watching this gripping documentary shot in the Brazilian Amazon, you wonder if our electoral system could learn a thing or two from the Indigenous Uru-Eu-Wau-Wau people." Leslie Felperin/The Guardian
"This is vital, searing documentary filmmaking from producer Darren Aronofsky in which the intimate nuts and bolts of rainforest depletion are zeroed in on." Hillary White/Ireland International
"A gripping portrait of an endangered community for whom nature is both their precious environment and the facet of humanity that can all too easily be turned malicious." Robert Abele/Los Angela Times
“The Territory” is more than meets the eye, revealing its most profound observations in stages across its running time." Clare Scaffer/New York Times
"A stunningly intimate look at the stakes surrounding this conflict, shot over three years with remarkable clarity and beauty by Pritz and Tangãi Uru-eu-wau-wau, a member of the tribe." Amil Niazi/Globe and Mail
"When settler Sergio says, “They don’t create anything, they just live there” as a justification for illegally encroaching on their land, the moral hollowness of capitalism lands like a sick thud." Sherri Flanders/Chicago Reader
" Both sumptuous and enraging, [The Territory] reminds viewers how film can be for remembering and preserving as much for rebellion and art." Robert Daniels/RogerEbert.com
